I’m so jealous seeing everyone else DONE with school and on Christmas break! I still have four more days!
The week before Christmas we worked on Author’s Purpose. For a little added Christmas fun on Friday, I ditched our usual Interactive Read Aloud to complete this genre sort.
I had a parent come in and cut three different sized triangles, starts and the trunks…
Then they placed the Persuade, Inform and Entertain titles along the sides…
Then they sorted the genres by the author’s purpose. Then we went over WHY the genres were written for that purpose and their clues as to how they knew.
I also included this interactive notebook for them to complete with partners during word work.
Each “title” is Christmas themed and the students had to read and determine the Author’s Purpose of each.
