Being kind is always important in the classroom. Sometimes, we get so busy with doing this or that, that we forget to PROMOTE kindness in the classroom. Let’s be real, sometimes students aren’t going to do it on their own. I created a little “Nice Notes” station in a little corner of my room. All my students know where it’s at. All the items came from Target and I used my Silhouette to make the sign.
Once a week, sometimes every other week, I’ll announce that it’s “Nice Notes Day” on the Smartboard when my friends come in first thing in the morning.
After they unpack and get ready for the day, they pull a name from the jar…
And take the name to their seat and write a nice little note to that friend. But they can’t put the name back and they can’t deliver their note until I call tables after the bell rings. (Some of them were putting the names back in the jar and others were pulling out the same person twice!)
They get so excited when it’s “Nice Notes Day.” One student says that it makes it more “specialer” when it’s not done every day and it’s a surprise when they come in in the morning.
